The Simčič family’s estate is located in Goriška Brda, where the Northern Mediterranean meets the Southern alps. Tragedy struck when the Iron Curtain was drawn up in 1948, subjecting a substantial portion of the yearly grape harvest to government seizure. The Simčič way of life was challenged for many years, but nevertheless they persevered. Now, Edi’s son, Aleks, says this about their passion: “When you taste our wines, you are tasting a bit of freedom.”
