Montepulciano, the champion of Central Tuscany’s eastern reaches, is often gentler and juicer than the more famous Sangiovese which dominates Tuscany and Umbria. This wine, organically farmed on hillsides overlooking the Adriatic, achieves an ambassadorial depiction of what the variety is all about while layering on delightful, delicate complexities and retaining the food-friendly firmness for which Italian reds are famous.
