On a wine buying trip to Austria, Paul Direder stood before us looking barely old enough to drive. He smiled as we sampled his wine and stood nervously with his mother at his side waiting for a reaction. Nervousness aside, his first vintage was brilliant, and he continues his streak with this bottle. It’s a bright, fresh, yet lush Grüner Veltliner in a dry, floral style that has crisp acidity and pure drinkability.
Serving Suggestion: Picnic foods like cold cuts, tuna salad, or egg salad sandwiches. Asparagus gratin. Korean fried chicken.
