Bernard Gaucher, Brut Prestige, Champagne, France, 2010 60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay
BRIGHT APPLE & CITRUS, TOASTED ALMOND, FIRM & RICH Champagne’s Aube region is an increasingly exciting destination (or perhaps it’s better to say “origin”) for lovers of outstanding sparkling wine to explore. The wines are often more Pinot-centric, and this vintage cuvée tips the scale at 60% Pinot Noir with Chardonnay making up the balance. Grown in soils similar to nearby Chablis, its balance of power, vibrant acidity, and minerally complexity, as well as citrus and hazelnut flavors, may remind you of great white Burgundy. Serving Suggestion: Hazelnut-crusted salmon w/ Dijon-dill roasted potatoes. Spicy Korean fried chicken sandwich w/ pickles. French fries w/ truffle aïoli.
