Fanetti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva, Tuscany, Italy 2018
{sustainable} 85% Prunolo Gentile (Sangiovese), 10% Canaiolo, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon
DRIED CHERRY, CINNAMON & PROSCUITTO, OLD SCHOOL
Vino Nobile is historic Sangiovese royalty. This was the very first DOCG certified appellation in all of Italy. Confusing to many folks, it is not made from the Montepulciano grape that dominates the reds of eastern Central Italy but is instead from the Tuscan village of Montepulciano. Sangiovese is the main player in most Tuscan wines, and Vino Nobile is no different, except they call their local variant "Prugnolo Gentile." Strictly traditional hand-harvesting, bunch by bunch, cask-aging in giant chestnut "botti" and wooden tanks, and originally declared only for Royalty, Vino Nobile maintains a well-earned regal mystique.
Serving Suggestion: Prime aged beef w/ black pepper & drizzled olive oil. Grilled ciabatta bread rubbed w/ garlic & topped w/ prosciutto & olive oil.
