Vermentino is something of a chameleon. It can be fun, fresh, and easygoing, or tropical and concentrated, or minerally and elegant. Increasingly, especially among Sardinian and Tuscan producers, we’re encountering enigmatically unconventional, almost-orange offerings like this one. Four days of skin contact give this wine a subtle yet unmistakable amber tone and a hint of tannic texture, while the winery’s proximity to the shore provides an intriguing suggestion of brininess on the nose.
Serving Suggestion: Calamari tempura. Sea bass w/ lemon garlic herb butter. Mediterranean salad w/ citrus-caper vinaigrette. Melon w/ prosciutto & goat cheese.
