Natural cork is the bark of the Cork Oak Tree, and approximately 5% of all wines with corks are naturally tainted by a compound that makes the wine taste musty or moldy. Screw caps, at onetime the main closure for cheap wines, have grown up and evolved into the best, most sophisticated way to avoid cork taint in high quality wines.
